I recall seeing a thread on here where someone was advised to consider moving to a certain neighbourhood as opposed to Uptown. I believe they were looking for an area with apartments. It was supposed to have more families and to be quieter, but also had some shops and cafes. I can't remember what the name of the neighbourhood is and can't find the thread. Anyone have any idea about where this place might be? I'm just curious. Over time I want to explore different areas and possibly relocate in a year if I find an area that suits me better.

Maybe Linden Hills? There are some apartments there, plus shops and cafes. Along Bryant Ave towards 50th has a lot of nice older apartments, along with some cafes and shop; it may be an option, too.

Don't give up on Uptown yet, though; it may well not be for you, but there are some quiet, non-trendy parts there, too! The trendiness and loudness tends to concetrate on the core commercial district (with some spillover up Lake) but once you get a few blocks in (depending on specific neighborhood) you'll find lots of people who would never set foot in the likes of Chino Latino (to pick on one of my least favorite places around), but who aren't hipsters, either.

I know there was a thread recently about someone wanting to know more about Northeast Minneapolis. Maybe that's what you're thinking of?

No, actually I think it was probably me who started that thread, but more recently there was an active thread and a different neighbourhood was mentioned. Maybe it was Linden Hills, although it doesn't sound familiar.
