I was under the impression he lived in South Minneapolis in the Phillips neighborhood. According to this website he graduated from the former Minneapolis Central high school in 1976 which was located on 4th Ave and between 34th St and 35th st S.

I have no idea where this house was located and I wouldn't be surprised if it has since been demolished like many homes in that neighborhood.

Do you have any details about his North Mpls connection? Maybe he had a house there at one point, but overall his time in Minneapolis was very oriented to south Minneapolis. He went to Central, was born in Mt. Sinai on Chicago Ave., at one point owned a store in Uptown (and there's the song "Uptown," too), and generally was overall a kid from South Minneapolis. As to where he grew up, I don't know either, but think Slig's probably right that it's gone. If no one here pops up with the information you could try calling the Hennepin County Library or the Hennepin History Museum and ask them to look up Prince's parents in the 1960s city directories, assuming you're talking about his childhood home and not a piece of property he might have owned at some other point in life.

I wasn't aware he had any ties to North Mpls. either. Checking the city directory is a great idea!

He had a good friend whose house he spent a lot of time at in the Willard Homewood neighborhood on the Northside, to which I believe there are some lyrics about somewhere. His wikipedia entry says he lived with a family friend at some point, and both of his parents whom were separated, but not sure if any of these addresses were on the northside or not.

I've heard that his first concert was at the Capri Theater on West Broadway.

I attended John Hay elementary school (located at the intersection of Penn & Oak Park on the north side) at the same time that Prince and his sister Tyka were enrolled there in the late 1960s. I have a 1968 school yearbook with their pictures in it.

1244 Russell Avenue North. It's an all-brick house with a round entryway.

The home belonged to the Anderson family. One of the sons, Andre, was the original bass player for the Revolution. He goes by the professional name Andre Cymone. Andre's sister, Linda, played in Prince's pre-solo band Grand Central, as did Terry Jackson, who still lives next door at 1248 Russell.

It appears Prince lived there from 1972 to approximately 1977. He left carvings on window sills, according to the current homeowner.

Thanks for clearing up this mystery for everyone! (I was pretty sure he had some type of roots/lived in the Willard-Homewood area, and considering he was at John Hay in 1968 as previous poster mentioned, it's likely he was in the area longer than those 5 years).

I hope not. That house is like an icon. That would be like destroying the childhood home of the late Michael Jackson. Prince isn't dead, but still. Destroying his home would be a travesty.
