We have a marching band competition at the Dome on Saturday. We always struggle to find a place to eat between the prelims and finals. Easy walking distance from the dome is necessary although we could hop the lightrail if necessary. We have an hour and a half to get to wherever, eat and get back to the dome. We usually go to Old Spaghetti Factory, like everyone else, but DON'T want to go there again. Ideas?? It will be all adults, no kids so Pubs/Bars are ok.

Dan Kelly's - great pub fare, east of 2nd Ave on 7th St (around the corner from the Gov't Ctr).

There's several places on Washington Avenue, including Maxwells and Grumpys for bar type food, but if you want something a little different, how about:

Spill The Wine--
Spill The Wine Restaurant | Minneapolis Wine Bar and Casual Dining

or Jewel of India (across I-35W) has good Indian food at Seven Corners

Sah-wa-tee is also along Washington, near the Old Spaghetti Factory--good Thai food

There's also SpoonRiver for veggie cuisine and a Vietnamese place (not sure of the name--might be Pham), both at the corner of 2nd Street and Chicago Avenue.

Options are pretty limited in Downtown East. There are alot more options if you take the train down to Nicollet Mall or Hennepin Ave but an hour and a half doesn't give you a whole lot of time to be taking the train back and forth. I'd probably stick to what you can find surrounding the dome. The most restaurants around there seem to be off Washington Ave which is where people tend to dine before or after a play at the Guthrie, like Sawatdee Thai, Santuary, Spill the Wine, Harry's Food and Cocktails. If you go one more block towards the river on 2nd St there are a few other restaurants, Eddingtons, Whitney Grille, Kindee Thai, Level 5, Spoonriver, Cue at the Guthrie, etc. I've never eaten at any of these places but I'm sure they are more on the fancy upper crust side of the restaurant spectrum.

There's a great little pizza joint downtown where the last stop on the lightrail is. It's called Downtown Diner. Really cheap, great food. They also have gyros there. delicious. The service isn't that great as it's all about the food. But, there are some spots to sit and grab a bite for cheap. Hope that helps!

Minneapolis Thai Restaurant | Kindee Thai Restaurant
I'd go here before Sawatdee. It's only a couple blocks extra walking.

Otherwise I'd drive north on Washington to
Bewiched Deli | Gourmet Sandwiches | Warehouse District | Minneapolis | Minnesota

or Brasa Premium Rotisserie Restaurant, Minneapolis, MN - Brasa - Premium Rotisserie is just over in NE

or if it's nice outside just walk over the Stone Arch Bridge and go to Tuggs or one of the other places right there.
