This is the first one the kids have have had since moving back to the Twin Cities 4 years ago. I love snow days and being forward thinking enough I planned my work schedule with the possibility of not being able to get to the office today so I get a snow day too.

The roads look horrible so stay home if you can.

No school day in central Minnesota
Thankfully, the snow wasn't that bad here.

We will need those snow days later in the winter, I'm sure.

We probably only got 5", it's hard to tell because of the blowing. The winds are really bad. It doesn't seem all that bad in town-worse then I have ever seen it here, but I am sure outside of town it is awful. DH just got done shoveling about an hour ago and we already have drifts about a foot high in the driveway.

The drive wasn't terrible this morning, albeit slippery in spots. The drive last night was far worse, 35E, 494, 62, 100 and 169 were all parking lots going both directions from what I saw.

I live in rochester I don't know how we got probably 10-12 inches its hard to tell because of the wind.

Class was cancelled today. I just done digging car out from a 4 foot snow drift, the snow was to the top

of my car on one side.

I commuted in from south metro to downtown Mpls....wasn't bad at all. Agreed that last night was worst coming home. 2-foot snow drifts in half of my driveway this morning. Oh what fun. It's about now that I start to think about moving elsewhere.

If you're going to live in a winter city, or are thinking of a move to one, then I do recommend the Twin Cities. I lived through 13 Minnesota Winters and the Cities are excellent at getting the snow moved after it is done falling.

For only a few more short weeks, I am in Omaha, and things are done here very, very poorly. I was quite surprised. They complain about their high taxes, but I don't see where they are spent - certainly not on state health care (there is none), certainly not on decent snow removal, and even the streets in good weather are in need of repair.

There doesn't seem to be any real system of removing snow like in Minneapolis or the area. We are probably snowed in for a good day or so, and being in this development, only makes it worse.

Considering a move to the Twin Cities, in addition to other places in the Midwest, then do your research on how they deal with the winters. That can make your life much, much easier.

I know that many people from Omaha will no doubt post comments about my post, and their comments have been very immature and nasty, but also, that is something else to consider. If I wanted to remain in a winter climate (and for me I just don't want to deal with it anymore), I would probably return to Minneapolis. It is very cosmopolitan, more worldly than what I've noticed here - much more so (coming from Out West around here is coming from Kearney; I had to walk away from the person when I heard that one), and just moves differently - the Twin Cities do. And, when the economy picks up or you do get a job, you have much better salaries than in Omaha.

I complain about our Winters a lot. But agree that Twin Cities moves the snow pretty well. I have been in cities like Seattle where they just wait for it to melt, put chains on tires and close the stores.
