I think we will start to see a concious trend towards combating sprawl, where we will see inner cities adding populations

Development standards will focus on land conservation as everyone is going "green".

If only Linden Hills were the catalyst for current and future population growth potential in Minneapolis...I'd be willing to bet that the population is over 400K already!

its a shame that everytime minneapolis seems ready to get a new project going that it just seems to stall and eventually be cancelled.

Really -- like what? Most of the one's I've been tracking are flowing rather smoothly, with the exception of the Magellan project downtown on LaSalle and the Nicollet Residences, but those two are by far the largest and most prestigious proposals, so of course those two are going to take a bit longer.

On the whole, there are AT LEAST 3000 units being proposed downtown, 2000-3000 in Uptown, and another 2000-3000 in NE/Dinkytown/Hiawatha. I doubt ALL of them will come to fruition, but that's probably not a bad thing!

I'm guessing that Mpls-TC was referring to Linden Corner, as (as far as I know) that's been the most controversial height project in the past few months. That fight got pretty nasty.

Maybe if some or parts of the neighboring suburbs get annexed into either Minneapolis or St. Paul. I could see Minneapolis hitting 400,000 if the east side of downtown gets developed with larger buildings. I would like to see it happen, especially if the metrodome gets replaced with a new stadium. Many Larger cities have land areas closer to the size of Minneapolis and Saint Paul together. Their population is close to 800,000 together.

Like I said, I'd be willing to bet that the population is already close to 400K, and should easily surpass it by the next Census. There's just too many projects in the works and demand to live in the city to keep the population down. It'd take a natural disaster or something at this point to not break 400K, IMO (of course).
