Dance in Minneapolis (private school, college, money)

Does anyone know of any free dance lessons/groups in Minneapolis? I'm a student (at a technical college, so I don't have fancy private school-type dance squads to join) and therefore don't have the money to continually take lessons anywhere. I like all types of dance. I know about the Irish step community, but is there more?

Also, I'd love to try that dance with the two long ropes of fabric, and have heard it's becoming more accessible? Does anyone do it in the cities? What is its technical name?

I don't know if this is what you're looking for but I've done community ed classes for ballroom dancing. It's not free but it is inexpensive.

I took community ed ballroom dance (tap, too) classes once; it was fun and was quite a bargain. They have a lot of different dance classes offered at community ed, although I don't know if they offer what you're looking for. It's worth a look, though.

There are lots of neat dance classes at the Tapestry Folkdance Center. They're not free, but looks like most of them are under $10.
