I am going to be living in Plymouth and commuting to work in downtown Minneapolis (the IDS Center specifically). I'm just wondering if anyone can recommend an inexpensive gym to work out around either of those two areas?

I'm not interested in a bunch of ammenities like juice bars, personal trainers or special aerobics classes. I don't even care how old the equipment is, as long as it's not falling apart or posing a safety hazard. As long as it has a platform or cage to do deadlifts and squats, it's good enough for me.

I know there is "Lifetime Fitness" and the YMCA, and the price on those isn't too horrible since I get a $20/month discount from my employer, but I'm wondering if there's anything cheaper.

I like Golds and the Y. They have pools, hot tubs, saunas, etc. There's lots of choices and someone is always having a sale. When you get here see what's convenient. If you have to drive right by it you will be more likely to go!

Thanks yellowsnow. Do you have any idea what Gold Gym's rates are? The Y is definitely my first choice on paper, but like you said, I'll have to look around when I get up there.

Golds is about $70 per month for a couple. The Y is a little less I believe. If you are in an area with several gyms, the price will drop because they do compete with each other. Look for specials!
