Hockey isnot my sport, but I think it would give the twin cities some character if they had two clubs. Like the Cubs and the White Sox, or Yankees-Mets. I don't know if hockey is as big in Minneapolis though. Have most of the HS teams dropped their programs? Any way, one team in STP and the other in MPLS and that would end any of those joining the Twin Cities forums.

Yea, if the Twins brought the two cities together, having two nhl teams wouldn't take long to split them back apart. That would seriously become an intense rivalry. I haven't really followed the NHL that much since the North Stars left but if this were to happen, I could quite easily become a fan of the St. Paul Wild!

The Twin Cities could more easily support two NHL teams than Raleigh, Pheonix, Miami, Atlanta, Nashville, Columbus, and Tampa can support one. And if LA can have two, we easily could.

So since hockey is bigger in the suburbs here, maybe that could be a way to connect the cities. The Twin Cities Wild and a suburban team.

If there isn't an NFL team in both Dallas and Fort Worth where football is big or an NBA team in both Raleigh and Durham where basketball is huge, then there will not be a hockey team in both Minneapolis and Saint Paul. It's been discussed ad nauseum, it will not happen.

It's still cool to think about.

City-Eyes, I'm not too sure if you want to say that Hockey is bigger in the burbs'.

Maybe you could have an outstate team up in Duluth. I'm sure all the hockey nuts up in Duluth and the Iron Range could scavange together enough people to sell out 40 games a year. Plus there will be a ton of people from the cities jumping ship to we a fan of the "true northwoods hockey" team. Could be big.

Or just put an nhl team in wisconsin. That's an easy, instant way to start a rivalry with the Wild.

Or just realign the NHL divisions to save on travel costs and put the Midwestern teams in the same division like old times.

FYI, The Arrowhead region and Eastern North Dakota doesn't even have enough people to have it's own congressional representative, much less it's own hockey team. It won't happen, no matter how many people love hockey over there. They love hockey in Anchorage and Saint John's, NS too, and there's no hockey in either market just because there aren't enough people.

BTW, if you don't doubt that hockey is bigger in the burbs, I have a Minneapolis Henry vs Minneapolis Southwest high school hockey ticket I have for sale. Gimme your credit card number and I'll deduct the price of the ticket from your account and you can watch the game on February 29th, 2011.

Minnesota could not support two NHL teams. But if another team came to MN, it would have to be located in the Twin Cities area. It takes allot of money to fill an arena night after night. The big money is in MSP. The teams need to sell the high buck tickets to pay the bills. Good luck selling suites in a town like Duluth, St Cloud, or Rochester.

Something that could probably increase the Wild's footprint in the region would be for the AHL to expand somewhere in Rochester, Fargo-Moorhead or in the Twin Ports. They're clearly mad enough for hockey for fans to suggest that the NHL expand into that area.

Someday that might change, but it'll be slowly. No icy ponds to skate on down here in Georgia.
