Since we lost our only NHL team for a while to, of all places, Texas, I'm going to suggest that one is our limit.

That's irrelevant, they were still D-1 before that.

I am still very excited for the 5 WCHA teams in MN though. It seems like we're the 'State of Hockey' like everyone claims but very few people follow the WCHA.

Being a fan of the underachieving Gophers doesn't count!

Joke people, as a Husky fan it's fun to see the rivalries and match-ups of in state D1 College Competition

Well you have three of em' on your team, Parise, Langenbrunner and Martin... Kind of funny, is that I've had beers with all of them guys.. Paul grew up just down the road from me...

Zach Parise
Mark Parrish
Blake Wheeler
Mark Stuart
Jamie McBain
Jeff Taffe
Clay Wilson
Mike Lundin
Brian Connelly
Jack Hillen
Steve Wagner
John Curry
Matt Hendricks
Ryan Stoa
Tom Gilbert
Nate Prosser
Andrew Alberts
Rob Bordson
Jason Blake
Dan Sexton
Toby Peterson
Matt Niskanen
Kurt Sauer
Alex Goligoski
Erik Johnson
Kyle Okposo
Jamie Langenbrunner
Jordan Leopold
Paul Martin
Joe Motzko
Derek Peltier
Brian Bochenski
Peter Mueller
Matt Smaby
David Backes
Dustin Byfuglien
Keith Ballard
Casey Borer
Matt Cullen
Sean Hill
Tim Conboy

I think 4 of these guys are from Bloomington, and 6 from Minneapolis and a handful from the Iron Range.

These are all the guys From MINNESOTA who played at least a tad bit in the NHL THIS YEAR. Half the NHL teams have a Minnesotan on their active roster, and 6 NHL teams have 3 Minnesotans on their roster.
Minnesota is EASILY the hotbed in America for producing talent. Heck, 11 of the 20 Miracle on Ice players were from Minnesota.

Here's a cool link I had saved in my favorites.

Look at a map of colleges with varisty men's teams. You've got two schools in Alaska, two or three in the western continental US, and UAH in the South (and it may be kaput in 2-4 years if it can't join a conference). Outside of the northeast and Great Lakes region there aren't even a dozen varsity teams in D-I. Most folks in the US do not even know there is college hockey because there's no teams within a day or two drive. That's why its not broadcast nationwide.
