I just got into graduate school at U of M and my wife and I are looking for good reasonably priced apartments near the st. paul campus. We were hoping for student housing, but they don't allow pets and we couldn't just give up our cat. Are there any nice apartments preferably less than $900/month close by? I've done some on-line browsing but it's hard to trust these ratings websites since you don't know who posts. Lauderdale and Larpenteur Manor apartments look decent online, but who knows. I'd prefer something within biking distance, but am open to suggestions. Thanks for your advice!!

Default Me too!

My husband and I are also looking in this area (moving from Milwaukee) - I like that part of Como Ave., but I don't know how parking is or how to avoid college-y apartments (we're 30yo professionals). Nothing against college/undergrads, we've just already been there/done that. Ideally I'd like to avoid the pretense of Uptown, but still have nice/not-dive corner bars and restaurants to walk to for under $1100.

Anyway, I've had some luck talking to building managers. When we were considering the uptown area I got into some long phone discussions with a few managers that steered me to good nearby properties.

Sorry that this isn't really an answer to your question. However, I'll be watching the thread with you for answers.

By the way, I've noticed lots of apartments available just south of Como Park... Is that a lively/fun area?

Best of luck in your search!
Ginger

Yeah, we're hoping the Como Park area isn't too "college-y". That's why we were hoping for graduate student housing because only married couples are allowed. We plan on visiting next week so we'll have a better idea of what the area and apartments are like. I'll let you know!
