I did back in the late 90's. The course is through the residential neighborhoods on the south side of Main St (between Main St and the river). I had been told by other people that they try and trick you by instructing you to take a wrong way turn onto a one-way but this didn't happen to me. I was instructed to make several left and right turns, change lanes, and make a 90 degree turn and parallel park. We turned back and went back towards the DMV on Main St. I lost a few points there because I went into the turn lane before I was supposed to. Make sure you don't go back into the turn lane to make a left back into the DMV lot until you're about to make the turn or you'll lose points. That was my only trip up, I believe I passed with a 93.

Other observations, the lady instructor didn't care where my hands were on the steering wheel, I asked about it and she said she wasn't testing me on that. She also didn't seem to care much about checking my mirrors and checking blind spots, etc. but I'd still do all of that to be on the safe side. Watch your speed too, if you go over the speed limit on these residential roads it'd probably be an automatic fail.

I've dropped off my Son and Daughter at that facility. The guy giving the test is in his 60's and probably needs to retire. He tries to intimidate your people by firmly saying: “turn at Elm Street” at the last second so you panic. His goal is then to tell you for not watching the street signs. Just hold your ground and reply back in confidence.

He is going to ask you what all of the buttons are on your car before you take off. He will say, “turn on the defroster, put on the rear wipers” etc. He also asks you to park on a hill (and what to do about the parking break).

I’d recommend going there early a day or two and follow someone who is taking the test so you know the route. You will need to get use to one unique feature on Main Street. It’s a dual turn lane (the opposite traffic can turn in the same lane as you). Practice that.

The flags are VERY generous for parallel parking. But my Son got scolded when we practiced using their flags (even though there were no one using them).

The last odd item was you had to back-up between flags (which represented backing up in a parking spot. The problem was there were three flags to represent a car. Frankly I never got how three flags represented a car in the middle of the parking lot but I guess he explains it.

My Son passed a month back on the 1st time. But we practiced and followed him as I suggested.

Good Luck!
