I'm sure this concept isn't original and may have very well been discussed in the past year, but I haven't seen it.

Not that this could happen, but would it be a good idea to combine Minneapolis and St. Paul into one major Minnesota city? Call it "Twin City", "MinneaPAULis", "St. Minneapolis", or just "Minneapolis". The two cities consider themselves mutually exclusive and independent of one-another, but I feel that merging the two could have numerous benefits:

1. higher population and tax base to allocate to necessary infrastrucure
2. contain financial, education, government, and leisure centers in one area
3. consolidate the good aspects and sort out the bad ones

What are some potential pros and cons of merging the two cities to work as one (regardless of what you call it)? Is this something that could even be considered or are there too many financial, judicial, or socioeconomic hurdles to avoid?

Thoughts???

I can't even imagine the hassle and the money that would go to accomplish something with no purpose whatsoever.

See I think there would be purpose. New York City did this way back when, when it merged with The Bronx, Staten Island, Queens and Brooklyn.

Or perhaps I am in the minority here, since it seems as though most of you don't think it would do any good. That's probably why it hasn't happened, among several dozen other reasons...

What a smartass!

Well since apparently we don't talk about subjects more than once, how can I remove this thread?

Two totally different cities. Neither would like this idea.

I think it should be done. One strong urban core instead of two weak urban cores. I also think Hennepin and Ramsey counties should merge.
