I'm from Michigan, so I'm more than used to the self-segregation prevalent in some areas. Minnesota is the LEAST racist and LEAST segregated place I've ever lived, and it is also the most diverse place I've ever been. I have had exactly ZERO issues with my race since I've been here, and I've been accepted by people of all races. I'm not white by the way. No one cares about race here.

I think the Northside is pretty segregated actually....at one point Minneapolis was considered pretty segregated, but most of the Midwest is. There will be racism and prejudice anywhere you go, but I agree with many posters that Minnesota is fairly less racist/prejudiced than most places in this country. I also agree that some people are "sheltered" and don't know much about other race/cultures aside from what is portrayed in the media, so they may act strange around new people.

Well there are going to be racist people everywhere, both blacks and whites, but non white people arent uncommon at all. You can't even go to the grocery store without seeing someone who isn't white. 100 years ago may of been different though.

I've lived in 5 states and I have encountered many fewer people with racist views in this state than any of the others. (Can't speak for CO, though)

Regardless of your skin color, how you conduct yourself is one single factor that determines whether or not you'll have good rapport with others.

Atleast White Minnesotans know how to use proper grammer.
And spell their own state, too.

There's nothing funnier than seeing white liberals talk about racism.

Yeah, what could they know? I fail to see your point....are you saying white liberals don't experience racism or even sympathize with it? THAT is racist/prejudice (not sure what your race is....don't care).

Well, as a semi-sheltered white liberal I think I became a lot less uptight about race after 9/11. It helps that I work in IT because of the employment demographics in that field (and no, its not just Indians). I admit being a middle-class white nerd isn't exactly representative however - I just know I'm not personally as hung up as I used to be, and nowadays its more about class than race. That's all I can talk about is my personal experience.

I also think a lot of the more pernicious racism is an Anglo thing and most of us are central European. We missed out on most of the colonialism and slave trade and plantation economies that started up in the 17th century so we don't have that huge weight of history dragging us down. It was an epiphany once I realized that because then I told myself "Why should I let a bunch of dead crackers affect my behavior?" The model here is more "Du bist Auslander" rather than "You are inferior", as well as whatever is imported from the majority culture. That Auslander thing is probably what creeps out a lot of the white New Yorkers who move up here, we're like pod people to them.

Anyways its late and I'm tired. Someone hit me with a nerf bat if this is rambling or incoherent. I can't tell anymore right now.
