You might find older smaller houses in Mound/Navarre area, but Minnetrista is getting pretty pricey. If you live in Mound the commute in is not too bad, you take country road 15 that hooks right up into 394. There are some cute old areas near the lake in Mound. I personally would not do the Stillwater to St. Louis Park commute, but if you love it enough, maybe it is worth it to you?

But when you know off the bat that you are going to be spending 45 minutes on the most congested roads in the city, I will have no sympathy for you. I see this as akin to a smoker thinking that it's their god-given right to smoke where ever they choose to- regardless of the impact on others.
This may be seen as a radical view- but I'm tired of hearing how our road congestion in the Cities is "not so bad" and suggestions for people to live 30 miles away from the U or downtown because "it's an easy commute". All the statistics point to the fact that traffic congestion in the Twin Cities is continuing to worsen and everyone has to take some personal responsibility in that fact.
I don't see how my driving kills other people, so your smoking analogy is off. Also, it doesn't matter how long my commute is, if I drive I'm still contributing to the traffic congestion. Another thing - who says I have to drive every day? I could always take the bus.

Instead of argueing with people who disagree with you, why don't you just take a test drive from your job in St Louis Park to Stillwater when you get off work ?

What is Stillwater like in the middle of the week? We were there on Sunday afternoon, and yes, it's a great town. Nice shops, great neighborhood. But after checking out the prices, I realized that these shops probably make 90% of their revenue on weekends. I gotta think it's a pretty quiet place mid-week.

Is public transit an option? I'm sure you can find a park and ride to downtown, and then take a bus to St. Louis Park. Time consuming, for sure, but possibly not longer than dealing with rush hour traffice....

This thread is six months old. I've already found a different job and moved to Mankato. This thread should probably be locked.

Don't do it. The traffic would kill you - count on 3-4 hrs/day on the highway.

He said he found a different job and moved to Mankato, and his profile location states Mankato.
