Can someone give me an idea of what traffic is like in Minneapolis?

Thanks,
Richwanket.

Sometimes fierce! Pretty much like any other major metro area.

Default Please define "fierce" traffic

I'm interested in this question too. I currently live in Seattle. You want to talk fierce traffic then you are talking Seattle.

By 6am the roads are clogged. Morning rush hour ends at 11 and starts again at 2. By 3pm the highways are fully clogged - including car pool lanes.

Week-ends are no better. The highways are always clogged.

Actual descriptions used in our traffic reports - foreboding, not going to end soon, completely clogged, stay home or leave in 2 hours if you can, wrist slitting, LA has nothing on this commute, bothersome, ......this is what I heard this morning alone! (and I left at 6:30 am)

Give some times to describe the commutes there. Morning rush - trying to get to work at 8.

Eagan to Bloomington
Eden Prairie to downtown
Rosemount to Eden Prairie

If you are commuting within one of the cities, it's not bad. I can drive from my house in the city to my office downtown in about 15 minutes, or if the traffic is bad on the freeways, 20 minutes taking local streets. But most days I take the bus, which is 30 minutes.

If you are going suburb to suburb, city to suburb, or suburb to city, it can be horrid. (Probably not bad exurb to exurb yet)

Rosemount to Eden Prairie

Eagan to Bloomington (depending on where exactly in both cities) say Yankee Doodle Road, Eagan to Mall of America, Bloomington 5 minutes, maybe 7 minutes in the really bad traffic.

Eden Prairie to downtown (assuming Minneapolis) 20 minutes in rush hour

Rosemount to Eden Prairie--I have driven this in rush hour going up Cedar to 62 to 169 and it takes 30 minutes BUT since 62 is going to be under construction and 494 in that stretch is a NIGHTMARE in rush hour who knows how long it will take.

if you choose to live in a suburb work in a nearby suburb. If you live in the city, work in the city or the suburbs. Suburbs to city is where all the bottlenecks are.

Red face traffic sounds manageable

Traffic doesn't sound too bad. Thanks for the tips.

I think Seattle traffic is worse than MN. That ocean limits the number of freeways you can have. If you cope with the traffic in Seattle, you will be fine. The further out in the burbs you live, the more traffic you will fight. If you know where you are going to work, live as close as possible. Or work different hours/off shifts.

The commute from the north into MSP is very congested. There are 2 freeways, 94 and 35, and a major HWY, 10. Those are congested at 6am and are usually bad till about 9am. And of course if there are accidents or weather delays, it can be much worse. Leaving on Friday is the worst of all. Everyone with a boat or a camper just has to get up north to the cabin. In the winter it's snowmobiles. You can just count on a an awful trip home on Friday.
