Just wondering how the name Minnehahapolitan got started...I'm serious I have no clue....but the sound of it makes me go "haha" If someone could tell me how this peculiar way to refer to someone from Minneapolis got started, would appreciate it.

Never mind maybe I got it confused with a user on here who calls themself Minnehahapolitan. Still curious as to what residents from Minneapolis are called. Example: St. Louis natives are called St. Louisans. Cleveland natives are called Clevelanders.

I suppose I should chime in. I think Minnehapolitan was already taken,, but when the name Minnepaolis was first proposed in the mid-nineteenth century, it did not drop ha. So the city would have been named Minnehapolis. The actual name is Minneapolitan, but it is hardly used.

Nope, we're all Minnesotans here! I've *heard the phrase "St. Paulite" by someone out-of-state; but the person being addressed as such preferred to think of himself as a Minnesotan instead.

THank you for speaking up Minnehahapolitan. You were the exact person I was looking for to respond to this, and hey...I learned something new.

The way I see it, its a lot like Illinois - You`re either from Chicago, or you`re from Illinois.. Obviously with the former, you would be considered from BOTH, but... For us people from the cities, I always tell people i'm "from the twin cities" because that certainly gives people a different impression than if I just said "I'm from Minnesota" ... eek, They could be thinking Albert Lea then, and not Edina.. Hahahahaha...

I'm from Chicago. Grew up in the city limits. I meet SO many people that say, oh yeah, I'm from Chicago. And then it turns out their from Schaumburg or Naperville or something. That is NOT Chicago! On the other hand, people from the metro (cities & inner 'burbs) just say Mpls or St. Paul or the Twin Cities.

LOL oh schaumburg.. you know, where i live reminds me SO much of that disgustingly suburban area... i think of 77 north from eagan (where i live - off 13) as I90 (nw tollway), and 494/ killebrew / lindau as my golf road, only its MOA and not woodfield, and then ikea is right next door. haha.
naperville is about as chicago as minnetonka is minneapolis.. hahah
