What is Target Center like?
When is the earliest that the Vikings will play in their proposed new stadium and will it happen?
Whats the metrodome like?
When will Ricky Rubio play and will it be with the T-Wolves?

Target Center is a pretty decent arena. Built about 20 years ago, it sits in Downtown Minneapolis, across the street from Target Field. Right now they are having naming rights issues since they just dumped a bunch of money into naming Target Field. So, Target Center might/probably will change names this year. The T-Wolves probably will never play there A) Because it's in St. Paul and the Wolves are based in Minneapolis B) Ownership issues C) Xcel is too nice for the Wolves.

The Vikings, if stadium gets approval (which is pretty much dead in the water at this point in session) they probably won't play in it until about 2014-2015. People are still complaining about the sliver of public funds used to build Target Field. What they don't get is that it's going to earn it's value back about ten fold in a matter of a decade. Probably the BEST investment ever made by Hennepin Co and City of Minneapolis and State of Minnesota, look at what Xcel did to Downtown STP. Anyway, they need a multi-use, enclosed stadium like Lucas Oil or Ford Field so they'd be able to host Monster Rallies, SuperCross, SnowCross, Drag Races, NCAA Basketball, All Star Games, Pro Bowls, Super Bowls, etc. I think it will happen, it's just a matter of time. Timing right now sucks, but soon enough they'll get it, and they'll sit on their hands (legislation) until it finally gets enough momentum and then the approve something for $300 million more than initially planned and wasting 3 years of our time. Just get it done already because we all know it's going to happen.

The Metrodome isn't really as bad as it seems. For baseball it sucks- It's not a ballpark, it's a STADIUM. STADIUM is diffferent than BALLPARK. So, it's designed for Football first, and able to be used for other events. It's the only venue to host a Super Bowl, World Series, NCAA Championship, and All Star game. The old school Astro-Turf was ugly and sad to see, the new Field-Turf is great. It was an innovative Stadium when built. I think that the Dome was a victim of bad timing too. In the late 1970s, the Metrodome was a spectacle. Places like AstroDome in Houston, Silverdome in Detroit, Super Dome in New Orleans and then Dome in Atlanta - were all great architectural feats. "Woah!! Football inside!? Under a roof?!? Coool?!!"" Had they waited until late 1980s for an approval, a better/more technological stadium would have been designed and built. You see, before a few years ago, pro sports weren't the glam they are now. Players didn't make much, and it didn't cost much to go to a game. Stadiums were simple. Salaries were simple. Now, the pro sport scene has gone global and as an NFL franchise and a professional team in the USA, the Vikings cannot continue to compete in the Dome.

The White roof in the Dome is cool, and the first impression of it is very breathtaking. But to a lot Minnesotans, we love the outdoors and being outside so the place gets real old after about 10 games there. The seats and rows are squished and crammed, and they aren't comfortable. the concourses aren't wide and the concessions and rest rooms suck.

Ricky Rubio will play for the Wolves in 2011-2012. He's still a baby. He's an investment draft pick, like MLB in the minors. He's been playing professionally since 2006 so he's years ahead of anyone his age, but he needs the equivalent of some NCAA time, which he's getting in Europe. No hurry to get him to the NBA, he's a raw talent. The Wolves suck though and only were really inconic in the Twin Cities when KG was here.

It's a decent venue. Not as pretty as Excel but it isn't bad. If you go to a Wolves game make sure you're on the first floor though unless you plan on bringing binoculars.

A stadium proposal must be accepted before that can even be opened for discussion. It would be silly to speculate on something that may not ever happen. I believe the Metrodome lease runs out at the end of the 2011 season? That could very well be extended on the condition that a new stadium is eventually built.

It isn't a very popular venue. For football it's serviceable albeit the ambience is essentially completely reliant on the noise-factor...it gets deafeningly loud in there.

For baseball it was a nightmare. The only redeeming factor was the fact that opposing teams would occasionally lose a ball in the lights and we had a sick home field advantage. For reference see the 1987 and 1991 MLB seasons.

Who knows, I'm guessing he'll eventually play in the NBA but it's very possible it would be with a different team.

On another note, the Wolves tried to lease out the old Saint Paul Civic Center, but the Saint Paul civic center dissed the NBA for, get this.... The Minnesota High School League Basketball and Hockey Championships.

Well the hs hockey tournament draws more in one weekend than the t-wolves do in a month or so.

It's all about quality of play. The MN HS Hockey tourney is as good as it gets almost anywhere at that level. The Timerberwolves, not so much...

Yeah, but it's the NBA. EA sports doesn't make an MnHSL hockey game and ABC doesn't have an MnHSL contract.

The NBA has become a joke over the last 10 years, and it's not like the Wolves have been worth watching since they got rid of Kevin Garnett.

And...?

I know some folks are crazy about the NBA, just like some are crazy over just about any sport, but for me NBA basketball is running fourth behind the NFL, Major League Baseball, and the NHL, and I'm not that great an NHL fan these days either...

I don't even watch the playoffs in the latter two cases anymore, and if I want to watch exciting basketball, I tend to wait for March Madness. That gives me my fill for another year.
