Hi! I'll be moving to the Twin Cities area in a few months and want to know more information on good neighborhoods to live in, as well as commute times from those areas to Maplewood, MN. I like the Downtown and Uptown Minneapolis areas, but I'm hesitant to commit to a place because I hear rumors that traffic through downtown St. Paul can be not-so-great. Is this true? How long should my commute be? Is this considerably worse during the winters? Are there other neighborhoods you would recommend instead, that would be still be appropriate for a young, urban, professional? Thanks!

According to google maps, it's actually the worst when entering Minneapolis at 5:00 PM thru I-94. Other than that, it's 'green' or 'yellow' all the way. But if it were me, I would not consider it worth it.

That being said, I'd look into downtown Saint Paul as it would cut the commute down to a 1/3 or 1/4. Plus, you'd be able to take the light rail to downtown Minneapolis in couple years once it's completed. Other Saint Paul neighborhoods I'd consider are Mac-Groveland, Cathedral Hill, and Summit-University.

About commuting in the winter, I've noticed it's actually a little quicker on average, except of course during snow storms where it'll crawl along the whole way.

Check out metrotransit.org for public transport options as well.
