thanks a lot for your imputs.

I have since been a asst. manager at a mcdonalds, handled cash, bank deposits... and etc.

Like I said, it was the first and only time I've ever been in trouble, and their were a lot of mitigating circumstances that were involved including depression meds etc.

I was thinking about the trainer thing. I would like to coach... hell I would like to play hockey, but I'm almost 25 years old, and I feel that it's too late.

I just grew up in a area where no one plays hockey, it was all basketball, which i'm quite good at.

I don't expect to coach college or high school hockey off the bat, but I think maybe I would like to do some middle school or something, and work my way up.

As far as getting into a school? My grades and test scores are good.

I would like to find a church up there too. One that teaches from the bible directly.

Everyone seems to have been honest and very helping to my cause and I do appreciate that.

I have a vast hockey card collection, and I buy and sell a lot, and I think that part of my hobby would be much better in MN.

Like I said though, mainly for school and the weather and change.

Cold weather doesn't bother me. I embrace it very much. I like it 20-40 degrees. It feels good.

I just think that I would like to spend my life in some way with the sport of hockey, whether it's in some form. And if it doesn't work then that's cool.

The change alone might be refreshing.

Any other thoughts?

Okay so you seem to have a good head on your shoulders and will probably do well in this state, but please, please, please, for the good of mankind, take heed to mine and others' advice drop the hockey coaching nonsense. The highest you will ever coach is your son or daughter's Pee Wee or Bantam C or B2 teams, which is something that I wholeheartedly hope you get the chance to do. The fact that you believe that there is such a thing as middle school hockey in Minnesota shows that you have a lot to learn. School districts are banned from having teams other than varsity and junior varsity. Freshman and sophomore teams do not exist here either. In place of middle school and freshman teams we have the Bantam (U14) and Pee Wee levels (U12) that are run through independent city associations.

There are a lot of other jobs besides coaching that someone could do that would still be in the hockey industry, equipment sales, PR/sports information at any of the colleges, jobs with the Wild in sales offices, etc.

eastside, I don't know what writing "middle school" teams have to do with the price of tea in China. I mean, once he's in MN he'll learn quickly what the lay of the land is in terms of local hockey lexicon. Needless to say, the guy won't be the head coach of Edina's high school team anytime soon, but that doesn't mean he can't be a part of hockey in some fashion. As qwerty wrote, there are tons of opportunities in MN for hockey enthusiasts.
What I want to emphasize is that you can find a place in hockey in MN. Yes, you will most likely have to start volunteering for mites, squirts, peewees (these are younger kids), and probably in a house league (even youth hockey in MN is taken way seriously (way too much, IMO); and no, I don't have a kid in MN hockey, in fact I don't live in MN at the moment).
And 25 is NOT too old to learn to skate and play. In fact, it's never too late. Find a house beer league (well, it would be good to learn to skate forwards and backwards first) and ask to join, at least for pratices. It'll take a few seasons, but you will be fine eventually. I might suggest watching the team play first, so you don't end up strapping on the skates with a bunch of ex-Gophers, though :-))
As far as work goes, Minnesotans truly appreciate a good work ethic. So if you have that you'll be fine.
Churches are abundant in MN (even in small towns), so finding one that jibes with your beliefs shouldn't be much of an issue.
Good luck
