We have both State Farm (for our rental property) and American Family and are very happy with both.

We also have American Family, for our house and detached garage, plus both of our vehicles. The policy covers all of our tools and other equipment.
Am very satisified and easy to tweak the policy if needed.

thanks golfgal and demtion35. I do hear a lot of good things about American Family. I'm currently with Progressive for my car though - I'm wondering if it's alright if I go with Progressive for my home (so I could get a good deal, since I'll have both my car and home with them... not sure though how they fare with home insurance) or would it be more advisable to go with American Family (for home only, or home+car)? How about Geico, any feedback?

I am not a fan of Progressive and I think their homeowner's policy is very limited. I would call and get some quotes from your local Am Fam and State Farm agents for both your car and your house. They also offer discounts for both AND you will want an umbrella policy which you can't get through Progressive. Geiko I think is even worse then Progressive. I think it is always better to have a local agent to help you through the process of a claim if you need too.

State Farm is a complete rip off, don't even waste your time for a HO policy. I have them for my condo rental unit just because a lot of places don't do rental policies.

I actually recommend getting a quote from Homesite (Progressives HO Insurance Company) you'd be surprised how they compare and have much better rates than the local agent.

Progressive auto claims I know for a fact assign you a local agent to deal with an insurance claim, I assume they would do the same through a HO policy claim..

My brother in law is in the insurance restoration business and says Travelers (or anyone associated with The St. Paul) is a great company to work with & most often doesn't lowball the homeowner on repairs. We have Travelers and have had two homeowners claims & they went very smoothly.
