I read someone's comment in another post that they would never consider sending their children to Winona schools, b/c of the iffy "crowds" there. That got me to thinking, is the city as a whole getting better or worse as time goes by? How have residents seen it change? I've read some stuff about problems on the west side, I think it was, near some townhomes...how is the city addressing issues like that? I've always considered Winona to be a lovely place, but perhaps some residents can shed some light on how they see the future of their city changing?
Seeing how Winona is on the WI border, would it make sense for families with school age children to live in WI, towards LaCrosse? I know, I know, property taxes are higher, but I would consider it a small price to pay if the quality of life is even slightly better.

There is nothing wrong with the Winona Schools, I know quite a few of the teachers and they are really dedicated to education. I also feel the City is very safe and have never felt unsafe here at all. Every place has crime, but I've never seen anything in the 2 years I've lived here. I have actually been very impressed with Winona, no place is perfect, but I think Winona has a lot to offer for a City it's size and feel that it would be a great place to raise a family.

Winona is a nice town with a perfect size. The "rough" area on the west side is actually in Goodview (I believe) which is connected to Winona. As for Winona itself, the further East you travel from WSU campus the housing seems to get more and more working class, but not dangerous or anything. You would not want to raise your kids near campus though, as there is parties and loud people all throughout the night.
