June 17th, this was the day when an EF4 Tornado slammed into the west side of town in Wadena, taking out the High School and many other structures. In what can only be described as a miracle, no one was killed. Many were affected and are still dealing with the aftermath.

Wednesday night on Discovery's show Storm Chasers, the Wadena event will be featured as the season's finale. At 9:00 pm on the Discover Channel, you'll be able to see how the devastation unfolded, as seen and filmed by the Discovery Storm Chaser's crews.

Didn't a Dad protecting his daughter at their family gas station die in that storm?

Yes, someone did in a small town to the west. I was speaking about Wadena and how close they came to being in a terrible spot. The High School was demolished yet there was supposed to have been a community parade which would have staged from there at that very time. Due to the weather forcast the community leaders canceled the event and many lives were therefor spared. It would have been a catastrophy had all those people been there in the path of the storm. As it was, many homes were knocked flat and still no one was killed in Wadena's storm. Wadena looked like a war zone directly after the storm went through.

That took place on the same day...but from a tornado that hit near Mentor, in central Polk county east of Crookston.
