Is "Minnesota State" catching on yet? I'm a Gen x'r and refer to it as Mankato State.

I just never hear Minnesota State...same with Moorhead...most people refer to it as Moorhead state.
I went to Moorhead. While I was attending there (2002 - 2006) the University was desprately trying to have the students call it "Minnesota State University Moorhead" but all of the incoming freshman would always just call it "Moorhead State.

Minnesota State University .... way too long!

I am confused between these two universities. Mostly about the off campus environment. I have a lot of experience in dance and i would like to do a part time job in dance studios. Can anyone tell me if which area has more dance opportunities? Also, which university has better student environment?

I have a son who attended both. From his perspective Minnesota State was almost "too nice" in terms of dorms/off campus housing. He thought because of this his dorm was not as social and "college like" because people felt too comfortable staying in their dorms. He found St Cloud to be a more traditional college feel - which he liked. I think both communities are very nice but Mankato off campus housing seemed either newer (and a bit pricier though not prohibitive) and nicer or more apartment based while St Cloud had more of the traditional large runs down off campus houses available.

Truth is both are safe, affordable, very nice learning communities. Mankato has a newer feel (almost young professional rather than student) while St Cloud felt more like a traditional college experience that I had in the late 80's/early 90s. Visit both and choose on your area of academic interest first and if both offer that - which one feels like home both on and off campus

Minnesota State University, Mankato has significant more opportunities for dance, as their dance program is tied to its theatre program, which is one of the highest revenue college theatres in the country. I've spent time over the last 6 years at each school and have seen productions at both.

I am an alumnus of the theatre program as i completed my bachelors there before changing my course of study for my masters.
