I posted a thread the other day questioning the commute time from Lakeville to Waseca and it sounds a bit long (thank you to all who responded). I have a wife and 2 young kids (4 and 6) and are looking for a larger town near Waseca for activities, etc. Which town would you recommend (Owatonna or Mankato) as far as schools, activities, raising young kids, etc. I know Mankato is a college town which has its positives and negatives.

Mankato is much larger than Owatonna and will have more things right in town. The town is large enough that the college kids aren't the major population. Keep in mind winter, MN, open country roads, etc. There will be plenty to do in Waseca for a 4 year old and a 6 year old on a daily basis. I would not want to commute along 14 in the winter.

Between those 2, Mankato hands down. Larger, more things to do and more places to shop, nice location in the valley.
