Hi,

Next August I will be in Rochester staying as a research fellow in Mayo Clinic. My stay will be just for 4 months and I am trying to rent an apartment before I arrive in Rochester. However it seems imposible to find an apartment with 4 month lease, furnished and with Internet. I also would like to be close to Mayo Clinic, but that is not indispensable, is enough being in a safe area. Does anybody know any place like this?

Thanks.

Have you talked to HR? They should be able to help you out. I don't know a lot about furnished places, but I know they are out there. Check this site out: Short term Housing Rochester MN, Furnished Apartments, Suites | Rochester Visitor Housing Association. I did not read through to see if they have Internet. Maybe it's not something you would consider, but there are lots of hotels that offer long-term stays. With that option, you may also find that you could just ride the hotel shuttle downtown too if needed.

Hi, yes, I know Rochester Visitor Housing, the problem is that all options are very expensive except Residences of Old Town Hall which offers private bedrooms with a common kitchen and I prefer an apartment, but I am considering it as my last option.
The main problem with normal apartments is that they have a minimum of 1 year or 6 months lease.
I will talk with the HR at Mayo, thanks for the answer.

Found this: 1 Bedroom Furnished Apartment in Rochester MN - 307 3rd Avenue NW Apartment in Rochester MN

Doesn't give lease info or utilities, but it's furnished.

I saw the one from J&L Property Management, is one year lease. The other one seems to have dissapeared from the Post-Bulletin.

I found a place, Maria's apartment (rooms and kitchenettes) 1139 2nd St SW Rochester, MN 55902 - Google Maps, is furnished and has short-term lease, but I do not find any reference or rating to it at the Internet. Does anyboydy know it and could tell me if it is a good place? (clean, safe...)

Thanks.

I don't know it personally, but being right across from the hospital, it should be fine.

Just found two places, Raymond and Zick Apartments in 23 7th Avenue SW and in 603 1st Street SW.
I also found this page: http://www.rochester911.com , seems that lots of things happen at the hospital, close to Maria's. Also I saw last year Oct 13 a theft in Raymond apartments. Not very reassuring...

Have you contacted Mayo for information. They generally have a list of places for patients and students to stay while there.

Also, while the actual population of Rochester is under 100,000, the town swells to close to double that during the week days because of people in town for work from surrounding communities, shopping, receiving treatment at the clinic, people visiting patients, etc. You are just going to run into crime when you have an influx of people like that and that crime is going to be centered in the downtown area for the most part. Rochester is not that large of an area, land-wise. Any place in town is going to be within minutes of Mayo so living "near" the clinic is pretty much anywhere in town.
