Most people in MN are unlikely to "walk all over" someone. That wouldn't be socially acceptable in most circles.

Not really. Minnesota is one of the most white states in the country. Non-Hispanic whites are 83% of MN's population compared to 63% of the country as a whole. There are 4.5 million whites in this state as opposed to just 250,000 blacks.

Anyway OP, I think you'll be fine in the Twin Cities. I can't really say for outside of it. Brooklyn Park and Brooklyn Center are both over 25% black and Minneapolis is over 15% black.

True, we still are pretty white. I think what asitshouldbe meant by diverse is that of the 17% that are not, they are from many races/cultures. I'm a white woman who lives west of the cities in one of the most conservative parts of the state. There are a few black people in my town and they seem to be accepted. That's what I see from the outside of course, I haven't talked to them about it. That would not be very Minnesotan (ha, ha) What others said about Minnesotans being a little reserved is probably true. As long you don't dress or act too bold or flashy, you should be able to live or travel in any part of the state without any major problems. There has been some tension between white and Somali residents in parts of outstate MN, but I think that is due more to cultural differences than to race.
