Opening a bank account while overseas might be tricky. They will probably not do that with various money laundering issues, etc.
There are 100's of hotels in Rochester. I would stay at the Kahlor hotel since it's connected to the Mayo by the skyway system and will be an easy place to stay for a couple days.
