I have been searching for houses around the twin cities area and i cant afford any nice neighborhoods in the city of minneapolis.
I notice the the houses in west bloomington are more upscale than the houses closer to the airport and the mall of america. I didn't find east bloomington nearly as appealing as the west side and i was just wondering if anybody thinks that a single guy can afford a nice house with an income of 75,000 a year and a fairly weak monthly mortgage? Anybody think I can buy a house for less than 450k in w. bloomington?

That's close to what I'm making and there are a lot of nice townhomes in West Bloomington at around the 180K mark - I've spent quite a bit of time researching them and most of the developments around 169 and Dredd Scott playground have very high marks from the people I've asked. A lot of them, especially the quads and the ones in the woodstock development have a very home-like feel to them as well, so it won't be as if you're in a glorified apartment. You can also pick up side twin homes in the same price range. For a single family home you may need to stretch that budget a bit, or settle for an older ranch style home in south central Bloomington (which is still a very nice area with very low crime).

I have lived on the west side of Bloomington for 5 years. Everyone always teases me about living where the rich people live. Its a nice area. Some gorgeous homes but I did notice alot of them are up for sale. I'm not much help because I live in an apartment. Very low crime rate in Bloomington. The west side of Bloomington is better then the east. But a great school district if you ever ned to know.
