Do you warm up your car in below ZERO weather to make it comfortable when you get into it in the morning? I understand that is against the law in many cities in Minnesota but is it enforced?

This was common when I was growing up, but I haven't done it in many years. It doesn't seem necessary with newer cars.

No. I just give about a minute to warm up before driving off.

We have a garage that is insulated, no need to warm it up. If I had to park on the street, I'd have a remote starter so the car would be warm when I got in on days like today.

on very cold days up here some do leave their cars running while running into the store to grab something. also though it says to turn engine off, many folks in very cold weather will leave their car running so that can sit in them warm while getting gas.

I have a heated garage, so dont have to worry about times when I leave home, but have to park outside at work and on very cold days (below -10F) I will run it about 10 min or so before leaving.

I start my vehicle to warm the engine, the inside of the vehicle will warm as I'm driving.
I also never leave my vehicle running when I get gasoline but I also do not get back inside the vehicle while the gasoline is pumping.
One spark and you have a disaster as well as the possibility that the pump handle will not shut off like it is supposed to then you have another disaster and you have paid for 10 gallons of gasoline that is sitting on the ground with kitty litter soaking it up.

It is completely irresponsible to leave the vehicle running and/or get back inside the vehicle when getting gasoline.

Really, just how many times have you seen gas station explosions like this???

It can spark when you are outside of the car too....

Most people have an idea of how much gas their car takes and if it suddenly is taking more, I would think they would be smart enough to go look to see what happened. I can't ever remember the pump not shutting off as needed in my over 30 years of driving though...

We've been up in Northern MN when the air temp has been in the -45° range...you bet we keep the car running when we are filling it up or in the store. Nice to know that there are still places in the world where you can leave a car running and come back and it's still there.

...I've never, ever seen an attendant admonish anyone from doing so, nor seen anyone dump gas out as you describe

I grew up in northern MN and I've honestly never heard of people pumping gas with the engine running until now.
