just tellin' it like I see it

Union is not a team of mid-20s, Canadian refugees like I heard the gopher media bo-bos whining about the past two days in preparation for the loss. Union is a team that is on avg, just 0.8 yrs (21.6 vs 20.8) older than Minnesota, has an almost identical make-up of the number of Fresh, Soph, Jrs & Srs and while 2" taller on avg (6' 1" vs 5' 11") outweigh us by just 3 pounds per man (189 vs 186).

Union has 19 of 27 (2/3) US born players on it's roster, but only two of those are Minnesotans. They give out zero hockey scholarships and have only one player drafted by an NHL team. Gophers have 14 players that have been drafted by the NHL and 21 of 25 that are Minnesotans.

it's something in our water.

They certainly did in the first period, but Union was simply outstanding. Give them the credit. They played at an NHL level for much of the game. Second period was the lone bright spot for the Gophers getting within a goal before Union put it away in the third. I am surprised he made that comment though. It only applies to the second period. Don't know what game Coach Lucia was watching either.

I'll buy into most of your thread, but the quote above is what I have to point out. There are plenty of schools that "don't give out athletic scholarships". Yet I know more than a few hockey players who have gone to those schools and they magically get academic scholarships that few non-athletes could dream of receiving.

That said, Union outplayed us, plain and simple. It was disappointing to say the least, but at least we had that North Dakota game. I was particularly pleased to see slack-jawed statuses on Facebook from some of my UND-rooting friends.

Ivy League doesn't give athletic scholarships either--yet they don't seem to have a hard time fielding teams

well I guess the Wild better win this next one eh, fellas?

meanwhile...anyone else notice that there's just 4 teams in the AL that have more wins than the Twins, I'm not sayin' but, I'm just sayin'...seems like a team of destiny to me.
