Probably certain Indian reservations. Not only crime, but close-to third-world living conditions there.

The most dangerous neighborhoods in Duluth are the Central Hillside and the lower part of Lincoln Park (the famous "West End"). One time I was driving through the latter with my mother, saw somebody walking down the sidewalk, and asked him how is the neighborhood. He said it was "bad" and that he was mugged last night. I've enjoyed the challenge of biking up the hill in the Central Hillside, and I think I once got a comment from a black guy that "your bike is gonna get stolen here!" Never happened. In fact, all of the thefts perpetrated against me have happened at home, in a rural location, or interestingly, at school (a PDA, a Sony Clie, that I left behind in Sex Ed, was stolen). It's just a matter of being street smart, for the most part.

Central Hillside (in the foreground...notice the beautiful views!):

If it was in any other city, the Central Hillside would be gentrified. Duluthians are just weird in that way, I suppose

One of my best friends lived in Central Hillside in college. Several people were shot on his block. It's not a nice area.

West end by the Seaway is pretty sketchy. I've been there a few times to go to the Aerostich factory/store (they make motorcycle riding gear - some of the best in the world) and I've always wondered if my bike is going to get stolen when I've parked it there.

+1 on the reservations. The reservations in Minnesota aren't nearly as bad as Pine Ridge in SD or Spirit Lake in ND, but some can be pretty rough (not Mystic, which is arguably the richest place in the state). A friend of mine was doing some work at the casino up on the Red Lake reservation. He told his boss under no circumstances would he stay overnight there ever again, and that they could fire him if they didn't agree, and he's not someone who is frightened of many things.

Visitors to Canal Park, the tourist area in Duluth, need to be aware that the adjacent downtown area and Duluth's west sides are sketchy. The homeless and drug/alcohol addicts make it unsafe after five or six at night.

Duluth's east side, such as near the colleges, is quite pleasant.

Don't know if it's the absolute worst, but St. Cloud gets pretty sketchy at night, particularly downtown and the neighborhoods surrounding SCSU.

Get rid of Meth and we'd be virtually crime free.

Yep, worry about a bear attack or falling through an ice hole. It is so dangerous here. (Although the occasional deer attacking my car is always in the back of my mind)

I see some pretty sketchy looking "farmers" displaying their colors and wearing their John Deere Gang hats straight ahead so as to not draw suspicion from the Po-Po at Kaffé Stuga in Harris most every morning that I go in there. How come they ain't out tilling their fields or planting their crops at 9:00 am?
