I spent some time this summer working temporarily in the Twin Cities area. I really like the area and have been contemplating a move there.

However, my only concern is the weather in the winter and possibly getting tired of freezing my butt off. I'm originally from the Southeast, but have been living in Missouri for the past few years.

Has anyone on here moved from MN from less cold areas of the country? How did you handle the weather?

I've lived in less cold parts of this country and two other countries, and also colder parts of the country (yes, they exist). The winters here have their moments, but there are millions of us who survive them, so you can as well. Get a good pair of winter boots, a good pair of gloves, a good winter hat and a good winter coat and you might find that you actually enjoy it. The people who constantly complain about the cold generally don't invest in the best winter gear and are left shivering every time they go out. When I was in college I worked at a sign company in Fargo, North Dakota (where it's much colder) and had the right gear to spend hours each day outside in -25 air temp with -40 or colder wind chills. It's all about preparation.

I was raised in southwest Iowa but lived most of my life in the Bay Area of California. I came to MN in 2003 and will leave in 2016 to return to the Sun Belt.

Of course you can 'survive' the cold weather but it is very limiting for outside activity. I'd rather slip on a pair of sandals to go for a neighborhood walk than strap on a pair of boots, overcoat, gloves, hat, face protection, etc. The cold is tolerable but I prefer not living my day to day life 'tolerating' climate.

Minnesota is a beautiful state with much to see and do. "A real nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there"
