One thing I noticed during my recent trip to MN is that you MN folks love numbered highways. I would be driving in Minneapolis, then come across Minnesota 5, then Minnesota 6, then Minnesota 7. I'm obviously over exaggerating here, but everywhere else I've lived, it's unusual to have numbered county highways inside the city limits. Here in KC, we have I-435, I-470, but do not have very many (if any) county highways in the big city.

What's the reasoning for this?

You're right, but it's still bizarre seeing state highways in the city limits. I live in the Kansas City area, and I've never seen as many state highways in the city limits as in the Twin Cities.
