I thought this was pretty cool. It apparently has been up there for quite some time, but now has taken over the top spot.

I also read about this.

I wouldn't mind going there instead of the twin cities.

I wonder if since it is ranked first would there be a huge influx of people and that would drive up prices of rentals?

I don't believe these kinds of list have that much impact. The Twin Cities are regularly near or at the top on many QOL measures and still are not growing as quickly as sun belt/coastal cities.

Most people take a look at the weather and run the other way.

They don't understand that we have things like heaters in our cars and furnaces in our houses. If one doesn't like the cold, one can avoid it much of the time.

It's no different from the heat, really. I'm in Atlanta now, and I'm dodging the heat by staying inside and running the a/c in my car.

Meh. It's a super-dull town in the middle of a cornfield. Can't wait to leave.

Definitely well-deserved! It's a great place to retire or raise a family. Rochester has so much going for it with the many bike trails and state parks throughout SE MN as well as its proximity to the Twin Cities. Rochester itself has become much more vibrant over the past few years with the addition of new events downtown and several great restaurants. It has a very bright future ahead as the plans for Destination Medical Center come to fruition.

If current residents want to preserve any particular characteristic(s) of their current lifestyle(s), the clock has been ticking (for two years) to make sure any growth and development RST experiences occurs according to what is acceptable.

I'm not referring to any sort of existing "Master Plan" (which are usually too general to be worth anything) but, rather, a "Comprehensive Preservation Plan" in which existing situations, that are to be preserved, are identified and codified by zoning, building, and development codes.

To try to organize protest rallies/petitions piecemeal is rarely successful and are less productive than establishing expectations before they are endangered.
