There is not enough cultural or geographical differences in the state to warrant a split. If anything, both Dakotas should merge.
If climate was a factor, many states would have to split into fractions of themselves. Even Texas, where the major cities each have their own identities, cultures and climates and there is no talk in splitting it up. It can be snowing in the panhandle and 90F and sunny on the southern beaches!

Alaska runs from similar temps to here all the way to glaciers.

How would climate really have anything to do with state separation?

You are being factitious, right? It's hard to tell.

Author John Torn wrote a book titled The Seven States of Minnesota describing driving tours through these seven district areas of the state.

Also changing the border means changing the shape! Minnesota has my favourite state shape, its very unique and distinct and recognisable. Its like if you change the shape of Texas. It ain't right! You already ruin a lot of souvenirs!

Most on here don't live in northern Minnesota, so this poll's result will be heavily biased. The majority of northern Minnesotans would probably answer yes to this question as there is an increasingly heavy socioeconomic disconnect between STC-MSP-Rochester and the rest of the state. Cities like Bemidji, Duluth, and the north shore and iron range regions are very liberal, but not in the same way MSP is. While MSP is a neoliberal plutocratic utopia, northern MN liberals are more blue collar populist types. We don't care for the private-public partnerships embraced by those in Saint Paul that drive gentrification and it's attached negatives, if you catch my drift. Our natural food co-ops look more "alt" than the Lund's and Kowalski's wannabes like Seward, Linden Hills, etc.

Its not about attention span, its an aversion to political nonsense babble-talk.

Perhaps you should have averted the thread altogether then, considering the title "Should Minnesota north of St. Cloud split into a different state?" Also not sure why either of you care about my state to begin with since your locations are nowhere near Minnesota. Sorry for your anti-intellectualism, ignorance, stupidity or whichever of these terms you can understand.
