Those who lived in Minnesota in 1989 will understand the significance of this news.

I am both sorry for the family to have to go through this again, as well as hopeful that in it they find some closure. Frankly, I didn't think that this day would ever come.

I posted about this here too.

So sad for the Wetterling family. Patty has worked so tirelessly on missing kid cases all these years with the Wetterling Foundation.

I'm thankful they finally found Jacob so the family can have some closure.

35 children are still missing in Minnesota. Please take a look at The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children website.
Some one may recognize one of these faces...

I'm a native of St Paul but at the time of Jacob's kidnapping I lived in Salt Lake City, a place with a huge family/children culture. There wasn't a place you could go without seeing Jacob's picture at a restaurant, gas station, or food store. That picture of a smiling boy with everything to live for was imprinted in my memory....and now forever. My thanks for the tireless efforts of the Wetterling family and never losing sight of their beautiful boy whose birthday they still celebrate in February. RIP Jacob.

I feel so bad for the family who have had to live this out with the uncertainty all these many years. Hope they can find some semblance of peace, I don't believe closure in these things is ever attainable.

Me too.

I am not a terribly sentimental person, but today after I read about it and looked at the parents' faces, I found tears welling up in my eyes. No human being should ever have to go through what they've faced.

What horrendous acts some humans are capable of.

Confession by Heinrich is in and sentencing in Nov., all part of a plea bargain and conviction for a lesser crime (porn). Unbelievable. Why are the Feds caving to Stearns county and the state of Minnesota? After the Lindbergh kidnapping it became a federal crime punishable by death or life without parole. Everyday Heinrich remains on this planet breathing he needs to be STUDIED by the psych and criminal justice professionals as to WHY he took the life of an 11yo beautiful boy (using "panic" as his excuse) who said "What did I do wrong?"....SO that a crime of this magnitude coupled with the suffering of a family who loved Jacob deeply (ie, evidenced by their all out effort not seen before to recover him) AND the empathy of an entire nation EVER have to be a witness too this outrage again. It's obvious that Heinrich at the time (26yrs) of Jacob's kidnapping had zero respect for human life. Professionals need to ask why? RIP Jacob.

unfortunately, it's not likely Heinrich committed just two assaults 27 years ago and then lived the next 27 years without committing other heinous attacks while being content with his volumes of child porn to keep him company
