I got my registration paperwork today and my plate. Just one. I'm too tired to safely drive to and from the dmv, so I'm just going to go tomorrow. In the meantime, should I put the current plate on the front or back?

Got car from Carvana, so there's no physical dealership i can go to out here.

The back.... but, having said that, were you too tired to just call the DMV and ask them? No reason to drive to the DMV.

The law usually reads something along the lines of being required to mount whatever plates were issued rather than explicitly calling for both front and rear plates. So if you were accidentally only issued one count your blessings that you don't have to drill holes into and mess with the airflow of the front of your car.

Mod cut., this is my first car I got from a dealership and not with plates already on it, Mod cut.. Not everyone has parents who know what to do or are familiar with state laws other than where they're at.

Sorry, it is tough to not crack jokes when a question is asked and zero common sense was obviously used before asking said question. If you don't want to talk to your parents, you don't want to contact the DMV, how about you walk outside and look at some other vehicles and see where they put their plate.

definitely put it in the back, but be aware that you may get pulled over (or tagged if parked) for not having a front plate.

Just FYI, some states only issue one plate. Florida for instance just requires a plate on the back.

You should have posted this in the Minnesota forum, we're nicer there!

Minnesota only requires 1 license plate for a vehicle that is in transit, which is probably why you only got one for a vehicle you got from Carvana. Or, is it a collector's car or does it date from pre 1972? If so, you only need 1 plate, in back.

However, regular vehicles used for regular road useage do need both front and back plates in MN.

Just contact the DMV and ask what you should do:
Vehicle Services

Ownership transfers, titles, liens, vehicle registration - (651) 297-2126
If you are unable to reach us by phone, please send an email to dvs.motor.vehicles@state.mn.us,
and include your full name and the VIN or MN license plate number with your question.

If I were you I'd just put the one you've received on the rear of your vehicle and drive directly to the DMV. If you're stopped, explain the situation.

Good luck!
