Well, Ridgedale itself is in Minnetonka.

Just caught this movie on Cinemax last night. I hadn't seen it since it came out.

The fictional town that writer Diablo Cody created must've been an amalgamation of south Minneapolis (Juno's hood), Eden Praire (suburb where adoptive parents live that is supposedly St. Cloud in the movie), and possibly Elk River (Dancing Elks), but the overall feel of the city is much more like Minneapolis or an inner ring suburb like St. Louis Park.

I have to say, though, that the shot of Juno driving from St. Cloud back to her home town definitely looks a lot like Highway 10 heading south/east.

I'd forgotten how good that movie was. The dialogue is a little forced at the beginning, but the story lines and the acting are top notch.

Juno was set in Minnesota. It was filmed in Canada. Why do so many people have trouble with that? It's not a contradiction. Many shows don't film on location. The mall and airport scenes in Mallrats weren't really filmed in New Jersey, where that film was set (they were filmed at Eden Prairie Mall and MSP). And here's some breaking news - Star Wars wasn't really filmed in a galaxy far, far away, either.

Setting. Filming location. Two different things.

As for the town in which Juno lived and went to school, we don't know what it is. The film doesn't say. Period. The film doesn't give enough information to pinpoint it. Period. That's because it simply does not matter. Yes, there's St. Cloud as a location in the film. Yes, Ridgedale is mentioned. But that's it. Juno's hometown is unknown.

We.
Don't.
Know.
Where.
It.
Is.

Fiction doesn't always spell everything out. And that's fine.
"Space is the final frontier but it's made in a Hollywood basement."

Yes we know it's fiction, however the point of this thread is to use context clues to figure out where IN the state it most likely states. It's nothing strange. People do it for other fictional settings like Arlen, TX. We know it's in Texas, it's not a real place, but fans can look at certain things like mentions of other towns, the scenery, etc. etc. to try to place where it most likely is set.

The fact that Diablo Cody was in the cities while she wrote this (meaning that she was hip to minor details) + all the specific context clues suggests that Juno's town is a deliberately vague, fictionalized version of a typical Twin Cities (likely west) suburb.

You "doggone betcha" or you "dadgum reckon", depending on locale. Or "cowabunga dude" where I live. LOL.

Just kidding. As to the actual locale, we can only take educated guesses. St. Cloud, Minnetonka, Crystal, Elk River?...We can't say for certain. I think unsettomati said it best and we should just let that be the final word IMO.
