"There’s a little-known fund that goes to victims of sexual harassment on the Hill. You pay for it."

https://www.vox.com/policy-and-polit...sment-the-hill

"Since 1997, Congress has paid at least $15 million to settle complaints about sexual harassment, racial discrimination, and violations of the Americans With Disabilities Act under the umbrella of the Congressional Accountability Act (CAA) of 1995...

Generally, though, [sexual harassment payments] aren’t made by members of Congress or their offices. They’re made by a special section of the Department of the Treasury established under Section 415 of the CAA — and ultimately by the American taxpayer...

...If a settlement is reached, it’s kept secret. The source of the money in the fund is excluded from the standard appropriations budget made public by Congress each year. There’s no process by which voters — or potential employees — can find out who the harassers in office are, what they’ve been accused of, or if they’ve settled with victims before.

...The payouts have varied widely, from just under $40,000 in 1997 to more than $4 million in 2007 to just under $1 million in 2017. The fund is virtually unlimited. The act calls for however much is necessary to pay awards and settlements, and a spokesperson for the Congressional Office of Compliance told me that money is only added to the fund when it is needed for a payment.

The exact source of the money is still a question: The spokesperson told me that money for the fund is not included in the yearly legislative branch appropriations budgets.

....Even if victims get through the process and receive a settlement, that money comes not from their harasser’s office but from the Settlement and Awards Fund. Furthermore, no office is required to make those payments public, meaning that legislative staffers — including members of Congress — may have sexually harassed their colleagues and employees on the Hill, and done so with the knowledge that settlements to victims would stay secret.

The House Statement of Disbursements and the Senate’s expenditure reports list gas station receipts, but they don’t list payments to victims of sexual harassment — payments provided for by taxpayers."

Lol the same people all riled up about allegations against Roy Moore think Al Franken hung the moon. Hell, even crusty Joy Behar doesn't care that he groped her (yes, that's documented in yet another a pic). Then, we have 36 SNL "staffers" who, despite their outrage at allegations against Republicans, found it necessary to release a statement in support of Al Franken.

And let's not forget that the Fools on the Hill from both sides of the aisle are pulling their hair out over the prospect of a Roy Moore win...while Al Franken is still there.

Liberal clowns are so amusing!

Unlike the walking, talking dingleberries that make up the conservative movement in this country.

This thread is all about Al Franken, Giant (Groper) of the Senate. He is one of the two U.S. Senators who represents Minnesota. This is the Minnesota forum. This forum and thread are not about Trump or Moore. If you want to discuss them, then go ahead and start a new thread. Moore has nothing to do with Minnesota. Trump has some issues pertaining to Minnesota, but not to my knowledge the groping behaviour of Franken.

Stop defending a serial harasser like Franken by deflection.

I'll talk about whatever aspect of an issue I choose- you can leave if you dislike it. It's all related.

Everyone knows CNN doesn’t like Trump. They are just using the same deflection technique you are. If you really wanted to discuss Moore and Trump there are plenty of threads in the Politics and Controversies forum for that.
