Compared to a place where the year-round average temperature range is 80 to 90 degrees and has never seen snow in recorded history except way up in the mountains, I'd say the Twin Cities area gets a lot of snow. And I wonder how many of those 5 million people have spent their entire lives in a tropical climate with a brief stint in a place that was temperate but still not cold enough to get snow.

At least a couple of times I have heard from people who moved here from Ireland or Australia who had absolutely no idea what winter was like here. Meanwhile, you're 300 miles further north than I am and she's from a place that is warmer on average than both of those places. I'm just trying to adjust her expectations accordingly. Minnesota winters are not to be taken lightly. If you're not prepared for it, it can hurt you or even kill you. People who have never known a true winter need to know that.

More people died from the heat wave in Chicago than did die from any cold spell. It can be very uncomfortable, but rarely deadly.

What the hell does a heat wave in Chicago have to do with trying to explain a Minnesota winter to someone who has spent almost their entire life on a tropical island?

Come live in Duluth MN. - More to do as far as bikes go and just generally more to do than a larger metro area. (imho)
Lake Superior to learn your degree on. Lots to do lots to learn lots going on.
Good luck!

Your marine biology interest also makes the decision a no-brainer.
Drover if my calculation is off some -25c is only about -10F.
but it will get alot colder than that though, but Im probally not getting what u were saying. Lots of times it will stay that cold and even longer colder than that.
This winter here was alot colder than the last few we have had, so it is always different.

I could not live in Hawaii, but I have a feeling (just a gut vibe that came from somewhere I don't know of) that Hawaii is better for you. Diverse, better climate.
