Tax rates and revenue are not the same thing, even though there is correlation.

Minnesota at 10.8% of a top tier income, vice Arizona at 4.3% of the same, is over double the taxation, Minnesota over Arizona.

You can cheerlead Minnesota's overall revenue all you want, but that is simply the state sucking more money out of it's residents pockets, and most of us know it. The average income per capita is irrelevent regarding the tax rate .

As for your convoluted logic regarding average residents having more take home pay before taxes, vice the national average, well that dog dont hunt either.
https://wallethub.com/edu/states-wit...-burden/20494/

According to this site, Arizona collects 8.21% of taxes compared to MN at 10.37%. Only around a 2% difference. The question is does that 2% get you a better bang for you buck in schools, parks, and services. I think it does.

Here are some links that might explain this.

Quality of life (grab bag of positive statistical analysis

The most importantly, happiness

The question is, when picking a state, you don't simply look at the tax rate because there are FAR more important factors to consider because the states do not take nearly as much as the federal government. That vast majority of states are within 2-3% of each other with some top and bottom outliers like New York and Alaska. The real question is how well does your state use those taxes and if you consider the links I've shown you, I think the consensus is that Minnesota does spend its money well (with a few mistakes here and there). Do we get our Money's worth....You betcha.

It's a good bang for your buck. Our infrastructure, schools, and services are all mostly decent. I paid more in taxes to CA and the quality of everything seemed so lacking despite.

Also, no sales tax on clothing is pretty neat.

What kinds of services and/or benefits do Minnesota residents receive from the govt that makes it well worth the cost of being the highest taxed state ?

Hundreds of thousands of "refugees" put here (against our will, for the most part).

For sure. For the taxes we pay, we get Islamic Societies in each of our small communities.

Can't have a Bible study in public school, but they get Islamic prayer rooms.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Minnesota has the best economy in the Midwest, so Minnesotans should really be grateful they're not Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, or even Iowa. I believe it's a well-governed state and anyone who wants to halt all the great progress the state has made is living in a fantasy world. This high-taxed state is the 2nd best state in the U.S. based on a myriad of factors. Last year, MN was ranked #1.

TAXES! Oh no, TAXES! So freaking what! It's resulted in a good quality of life, education system, healthcare, and infrastructure in MN. I wouldn't want Alabama's economy. Go Vikings!

I’d swap college football teams in a heartbeat.

Maybe vote out the politicians that have made MN a very high tax state? Hold the politicians accountable. Hmmm, wonder what party that is?
