Hello
I am considering transfering to minnesota state university-Moorhead next semester, and i am wondering if I would fit in. Are people in Moorhead Minnesota accepting to people who are different. I am from the south so I have an accent ,but I am not really a typical southerner. In fact I really do not fit in with other people from the south. It seems like all of my friends are transplants from other states. In fact one of my friends from Iowa told me I would probably fit in better in the midwest, then I do here.

My mom is from Flint Michigan and I love the snow. My whole life I have wanted to live in a cold envionment with a bunch of snow.I also love the outdoors hiking, biking, going to the mountians. These things are all really important to me, for the most part do people in minnesota enjoy these types of things. Another one of my biggest passions is musical theatre, are there a lot of places to get involved in theatre.

Also is it easy to get a teaching job here. My major is seconary English education with a minor in theatre. I would love to be a drama/theatre teacher when I graduate and I was wondering how easy or hard it would be for me to get a job here.

Please tell me if you think I would fit in here or give me a place that has a college/university that you think I would fit in better.
Thanks

There is not much to do in Moorhead. If you like mountains and hiking you should move to Duluth. If culture and theater are what you need then Minneapolis is the place. Duluth does have a decent arts and culture scene though. There is UMD.

I was going to say the same thing, Duluth might be a better choice if you like the outdoors. Moorhead is in a very flat, open area of the state. You won't have problems finding people that like to do what you like to do anywhere in MN.

Another place to consider is the College of St. Benedict (all woman's school). It is a cooperative school with St. John's University(all men's school) and the St. John's campus is absolutely beautiful. You could do all the hiking, biking, etc. right on campus. All the the classes/programs are mixed. The only you won't have are co-ed dorms.

Any of the Twin Cities schools will put you close to outdoor activities as well.

You will fit right in in MN.

As for finding teaching jobs, English is a pretty common major but the Theater background will help. Do you do speech or debate? That would help as well. If you can change your major to math or science with a theater background you are almost guaranteed a job someplace (providing you are good obviously).

To back Moorhead up a little, it is right next to Fargo, where there is quite a bit to do. I do hear great things about Moorhead U and also NDSU across the river.

Of course, I'm a bit slanted towards Duluth, living here and all. Duluth's built on a hill overlooking Lake Superior with hiking trails and parks everywhere in town. Duluth also has UMD and St.Scholastica, both well respected universities. There's also LSC (Duluth), UWS (Superior) and WITC (Superior).

Otherwise, the Fargo/Moorhead and Duluth/Superior areas are very similar in my opinion. Fargo and Moorhead have very similar populations to Duluth/Superior and also very similar climates (although Moorhead is quite a bit windier, due to the flatness).
