Hi, I'm new to the twin cities and my boyfriend and I have both sets of parents coming out for mother's day. does anyone have ideas on where to take them? they already think we are crazy for moving to MN from CA so we want to take them somewhere thats really gonna be cool with a great view if possible. gotta have a bar too!! both moms are pretty young, about 50, so we'd like to steer away from the old fashioned, traditional mothers day brunch but somewhere still pretty nice. any ideas? thanks!!!

Are you in Minneapolis or St Paul? If St Paul, perhaps the Downtowner Woodfire Grill, altho it has no views. The food is always good and inside is pretty spectacular. Also in St Paul there's WA Frost & Co near the cathedral. In Minneapolis there's Sunsets right on Lake Minnetonka or the Nicollet Inn on Nicollet Island.

Oooh, that's a good one! Altho you do have to schlepp all the way out to Stillwater to catch the train.

Well, there goes my idea then, I was going to suggest the Lowell Inn in Stillwater. Just so you know, Stillwater isn't all that far away.

The Zepher is pretty cool though. It is better in the fall with the leaves. We took the kids on a midnight run when the 6th Harry Potter book was released and they turned it into the Hogwarts Express.

Which brings up a question. Why doesn't MSP have a "river town" area so to speak?

I've never been to this before, and I know you said you wanted to steer away from the traditional mother's day brunch, but it might be worth looking into the Windows on Minnesota Mother's Day Brunch. Its on the 50th floor of the IDS Center , so I imagine it has a pretty amazing view. As for what the average age of mom's there - who knows? Probably an older/fancier group, but I'm sure they still have a bar! I think that brunch is $37 per person, and I'm guessing the food is pretty good. Maybe something to look into!

Can't you catch a paddle boat cruise/ride at Harriett Island?

Are you looking for a daytime or evening shin-dig? (Isn't BRUNCH a little early for a bar?<~Aside from mimosas and such?)
