I live in NW MN and am newly remote for work. I'm allowed to live anywhere in the state and I'm looking to fill one void - a lack of good trout fishing within close proximity. This of course leaves 2 regions of the state - NE and SE MN.

Being as though both are great in this regard - where would you rather live? I'm looking for the perspective of others hoping you can think of something I can't. Weather variance isn't important to me. I can pursue my other interests just fine in either place. Duluth is a good bit larger than Winona of course, but I feel they both offer quite a lot as anchors to the places I would be venturing to. I do like both very much. thanks in advance for your replies.

I fell in love with SE MN the first time I laid eyes on it and have dreamed of living down there ever since. The rivers, river towns, bluffs and vista view farms comprise such a beautifully unique part of not only Minnesota, but America altogether. Lower COL and more variety in the weather (I know you don't care about weather, but I love thunderstorms) than Duluth, which is a surprisingly expensive area.....plus, you can plop down anywhere in SE MN and have quick access to the best hospital on earth in Rochester. La Crosse, WI is a decent sized area right across the Mississippi for many things you might need/want that Winona wouldn't have and you're still only 2 to 3 hours from the cities for everything else. Sounds pretty good to me.... SE MN all the way.
