Rochester, it is
Because of health needs, we've settled on Rochester, MN. Still very physically active, but bad knees land me in rehab from time to time. Rochester seems to provide the best blend of access to care, access to the great outdoors, easy transport options to surrounding cities if you don't want to drive, and reasonable access to good food/ arts/ wineries/ theater. Plus there is canoeing both south and north of the town. Plus the Douglas rail-trail is a real enticement! THanks all!

I think you should really consider some urban areas of the Twin Cities-- if you lived close to the Grand Rounds system in Minneapolis, you'd be near miles of bike trails, lakes and some creeks(i.e. Minnehaha Creek), urban forests, and lots of arts offerings!
