We are a young family and are very exciting to be moving to Grand Rapids this summer. In looking for a home, does anyone have any advice on such matters (areas of town, out of town, etc.). In looking online at real estate, it appears that nice houses with a reasonable yard (acreage is a definite plus) are pretty reasonably priced.

Any other tidbits about the area would be great.

If we lived in that area, we'd look first at La Prairie. We really like it and it's right next to Grand Rapids. Personally I wouldn't go any farther east than Bovey. I like the area of 169 - south part. There are neighborhoods there that we liked. All the schools seem to be pretty decent and rate well. Friendly town in my experience. It grows in the summer - big time but still a great community in my experience.

We are a family that lives in Michigan and we will be moving to Minnesota area. I have two older kids that live in the Grand Rapids area. It is very nice. I liked Grandville, Wyoming ect. If you have any questions let me know and they might be able to help you.

I moved my family here 6 months ago. I absolutely love it. There are tons of properties to look at. Very kid friendly. Schools are very good. YMCA has a great daycare. Look at a lot of properties and the surrounding neighbors and areas. I personally think Grand Rapids is nicer than the surrounding areas. We looked at about 20 homes and found one that we really liked. Alot of them looked great online, but had issues with them when you saw them in person. Also negotiate the price on the home. We didn't have the price dropped on our house, but had them install a new well and new septic system. About $16,000 bill. Great buyers market now.
