What is the point of posting this in the Minnesota Forum? I can find a "Negro Lake" in several other states:

Washington

Louisiana

Nebraska (my home state and I had never heard of it)

Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitor sites is not allowed

New York

Illinois

It's a pretty generic (and common) name for a lake. Go spam other state boards with this PC nonsense if you're going to pick on Minnesota.

I didn't hear about the lake on the internet. Someone called it n*gger lake and I decided to look it up. You're OK with the name and I'm not. That's fine with me.

Kuan, Negro Lake is okay; the person who called it N***er Lake is the one who has a problem and needs correcting, not the cartographers.

I don't speak Spanish, but as someone who grew up in the Catholic Church pre-Vatican II; I knew that it was a Latin-based word and meant black. Some lakes here in MN (and many other places, I'd guess) have water that's very dark, naming a lake after the color of the water is fairly common. Think of all of the Mud Lakes, Green Lakes, Clear Lakes, etc.

So, some idiot called it by the wrong name and you're choosing to take offense to the original name because of that? I'm sure there are plenty of other lakes and towns in Minnesota that could be offensive if altered slightly. This is nothing more than political correctness run amok.

Well apparently I was mistaken. This lake was originally named N*gger Lake. It has since been renamed Burns Lake.

Whoa! Prove that one!

Come up with one iota of evidence for your claim. Just one.

Show us the link to the Minnesota DNR records. Show us a link to the Minnesota Historical Society records. Show us a link to county records.

If not, I take it that you are a flamer who really just wants to rile people up and provoke unnecessary controversy. Someone whom we should all put on our "ignore" list.

Well I used the old fashioned method of calling someone on the phone and using the library, but good thing for me there is a link. It's slightly different from what I was told, but hey, what do government workers know eh?
