I will be relocating to the Twin Cities in a few weeks with my fiance. We are going to look at apartments this weekend and need to sign a lease ASAP. I will be working in Bloomington, but we'd like to live in an area that is close to nightlife/restaurants AND affordable. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

I would suggest just renting right in Bloomington. Preferably on the West side of I 35W. I live in Bloomington right now and you can get downtown Minneapolis in 10 minutes for the nightlife. Living right in Minneapolis can be hit or miss in terms of affordability/crime. But there are plenty of restaurants in Bloomington, as well as the Mall of America. I live in a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom for $820.
But if you want more nightlife, renting right in the Uptown area of Minneapolis should serve it's purpose, and getting to work wouldn't be too much trouble. But all apartments there that are cheap are so old, and I personally hate those dark wood floors, exposed radiators, and disgusting bathtubs.

Look around Eagan and Burnsville. They are both good areas and close to Bloomington.

if you want to be where the nightlife/excitement is you gotta move into Uptown. Try using craigslist.org and look up apartments in uptown. The closer you are to Hennepin and Lake, the closer you are to where the action is.

I agree with Slig, but for an area that's more affordable while still close to great restaurants and nightlife, try "Nordeast" (North East Minneapolis).

To put things into perspective, this past year I was living in a 3 bedroom apartment in Uptown off of 28th St and Fremont Ave and paying $1295/month. If that isn't affordable I don't know what is.
