I will be leaving the military in less than a year and thinking about a place to relocate. I am thinking about going to graduate school at U of Minn and remaining in the Twin Cities afterwards. I am from Detroit-area in Michigan and really like the midwest (especially after being in the southwest! Everything is a shade of tan or brown and you have the same weather - hot, windy, dusty - every day of the year. Yikes!) It seems like Minnesota offers the same major city/Midwest appeal as the Detroit area, but with a better economy and a center city that isn't all but dead with a national embarrassment for a mayor. Also, my wife is a science teacher; it is difficult to get certified to teach and find a job in Minn?

Science teachers have an easier time finding jobs in MN then other disciplines. Getting certified isn't hard but MN doesn't generally just accept a license from other states unless the requirements are the same. She may have to take some courses to get her license here but that won't be difficult. Since she has a year I would suggest contacting the state ed dept to find out what she needs and start the process now so she will be licensed before she starts job hunting.

When I left the Army after 12 years rather than returning to my home in Upstate NY I decided to go the U of MN-best move I ever made, best place I ever lived.
(before boom town days,however)
Probaly one of the few 9th grade dropouts with an Army GED to ever graduate
"summa *** laude" I imagine.
