Hello, I am 23 years old, I just graduated from the University of Madison-Wisconsin and decided to continue my education at Herzing College in the twin cities. I am moving to the cities around April 1st and am looking to live in the uptown/downtown area. I was wondering if I could please get some advice on where to look for other female roomates my age?? I also have a puppy who is not going to grow larger than 15lbs and I need to find a place to rent that allows small dogs. I was wondering if someone could also please direct me to a SAFE area, I am looking to spend anywhere from $400-600 on an apartment. Please let me know if you have any advice. Thanks all!

Start by checking out Craigslist. You'll at least get a sense of the prices of different neighborhoods, and can go from there. Uptown/downtown offers a huge range of different neighborhoods. If you're thinking roommate, does that mean that you're looking to split a 2 BR for around $800-$1200? If so, you should be able to lots of options, even with a small dog. I think Craigslist has roommate listings, too, although there may be other better services out there to help out with the process.

What are your priorities, besides safe? Do you need public transit access? How far a commute do you want (I'm not sure where Herzing is located)? Do you want a younger, more student-oriented neighborhood? Do you want a quiet neighborhood, or do you want lots of restaurants or nightlife within walking distance?
